Health Insurance Open Enrollment for those under 65

For coverage starting in 2015, the Open Enrollment Period for The Health Insurance Marketplace is November 15, 2014 through February 15, 2015. Individuals may also qualify for Special Enrollment Periods outside of Open Enrollment if they experience certain events. Below is a link to a video series about the healthcare reforms that created the health insurance exchanges for people under 65 that need to purchase their own health insurance.

2014 Denver Senior Coalitions Holiday Party

The Southwest Coalition on Aging is organizing the Holiday Gathering for 2014. The event is on Thursday, December 4th. This year's Joint Coalition Holiday fundraiser is a drive to collect gift cards of $15 to $25 from King Soopers, Albertsons, Safeway or Walmart. The cards will be divided among 3 of our senior service provider members to give to the seniors they serve. If you are able please give one or more gift cards. Note that if you cannot give gift cards due to corporate policy we can also accept checks made out to Denver Senior Coalitions. If you have questions call Bill Hohs, President of the Southwest Coalition on Aging at 303-747-6295. And a big thank you to InnovAge for hosting our Holiday Gathering! Medicare's Open Enrollment Period Ends Dec 7, 2014
October 15th to December 7, 2014 is when ALL people with Medicare can change their Medicare health plan and prescription drug coverage for 2015. People with Medicare can call 1-800-MEDICARE or visit www.medicare.gov for plan information. If a person is satisfied that their current plan will meet their needs for next year, they don't need to do anything.

A Little Help is a Colorado nonprofit that helps elders thrive in their communities with the help of volunteering neighbors. Our annual Holiday Party is Thursday, December 11th at 6 p.m. at Shaver Ramsey (2414 E 3rd Ave) in Cherry Creek North. This holiday event celebrates 2014's successes and everyone is welcome (interested neighbors included)! Don’t miss out on this fun chance to dine, drink, and dance. We'll be serving a delicious holiday spread by Appetites Catering- $15 adults, $8 for senior members, and $6 for kids. Arapahoe County Council on Aging (ACCOA) Luncheon Meeting

Location: Caley Ridge Assisted Living

The Arapahoe County Council on Aging (ACCOA) is composed of a group of seniors and  representatives of government agencies, service providers and senior organizations. ACCOA Meetings are held on the 4th Monday of each month (with the exception being Memorial day when it is held on the 3rd Monday and there is generally no meeting in December). Regular meetings are from 1:00PM-2:30PM however the January meeting is a luncheon. Meetings are held at Caley Ridge Assisted Living located at 9350 E Caley Ave, Englewood. Join us as industry minded professionals gather to discuss senior issues including but not limited to transportation, housing, abuse and neglect and much more. Guest speakers come each month to present and discuss issues. Please call Debbie Hutto of Caley Ridge with any questions at 303-721-8900. Guests and newcomers are welcome.

Colorado Senior Lobby is a non-profit, non-partisan, all volunteer organization, that speaks with a unified voice for all Coloradoans, particularly those who are 60 years of age and older. Members receive the monthly newsletter with updates on bills, state regulations, or administrative actions and articles that may be of importance to older adults. Sponsorship opportunities are available for Senior Day at The Capitol and join Colorado Senior Lobby for 2015 to stay current with what is happening in the Colorado Legislature in regard to seniors and organizations that serve seniors.
