2014 Doors Open Denver

This free 2-day event gives the community and interested professionals the opportunity to experience the built-environment in 12 neighborhoods and visit many buildings that are typically not open to the public. Special guided tours and bike routes and walking paths to historic places are included in the tour. The event is free thanks to the Denver Architectural Foundation, and their many sponsors and friends. 2014 Headquarters will be in the beautifully remodeled white marble lobby of 1801 California Street. We invite you to participate in the Bessie’s Hope ‘2-Wheel Fantasy’ motorcycle event. This is a ride that combines the twists and turns of the scenic foothills and nearby mountain stops with stops at a couple of nursing homes or assisted living communities. Some bikers are comfortable with taking elders for a ride around the parking lot. Some aren’t and that is okay. Your presence with your motorcycle is their ‘present’ for the day. To help professionals understand SB 111 their roles, responsibilities and liability as a mandated reporter, the City & County of Denver and Denver District Attorney are hosting a one-day conference, Speak Up It’s the Law. The information provided at the conference will be Denver specific. The conference will be held June 11, 2014 from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the University of Denver. Colorado’s New Law on Mandatory Reporting of Abuse or Exploitation of Elders
takes Effect on 7-1-14
The following is a review of a Presention made at the February 19th East Coalition Meeting on Mandatory Reporting
On February 19, 2014 Peggy Rogers, Manager of Adult Protective Services (APS) made a presentation at the East Coalition for Senior Services meeting on Colorado’s New Law on Mandatory Reporting of Abuse or Exploitation of Elders takes effect July 1, 2014
Peggy is the Manager of the Adult Protective Services (APS) program in the Division of Aging and Adult Services with the Colorado Department of Human Services. Peggy spoke about the upcoming July 1, 2014 date when mandatory reporting of Elder Abuse will become effective. She reviewed the new procedures for reporting and specific penalties for not reporting. Also, Adult Protective Services (APS) has redefined more specifically what an at-risk elder is. Peggy shared resources with the Coalitions to post on this website. Watch for other organizations providing training on this new law. Sometime in April the group will be launching a new website – check this domain name and watch for content about Colorado’s New Law on Mandatory Reporting of Abuse or Exploitation of Elders.
