Aging 2.0 Local Denver – Changing the Narrative Initiative
Location: Covenant Village of Colorado
Address: 9153 Yarrow Street, Westminster, 80021
This event is being streamed!

Changing the Narrative Initiative is a strategic communications campaign designed to change the negative and inaccurate stereotypes that the public holds about older people. The campaign will train audiences in research-based framing strategies about aging and ageism and will advance effective and productive messages about older people through social media campaigns and through op-ed pieces and stories in print and electronic media. A core strategy of the Initiative is training influential organizations like Aging2.0 Denver Chapter and it’s members in Reframing Aging. This is information that can be used by aging stakeholders, advocates, startups in the aging space and seniors themselves. Developed based on national research by the FrameWorks Institute, a national communications think tank, the training workshops teach messaging and communications strategies that have been tested and proven effective in shifting perceptions so that people are more likely to support policies and practices that better respond to the increased longevity in our country, and leverage the contributions of older people while also helping to meet their needs as they age. Facilitated by a Frameworks Institute Certified Master Trainer, the workshop we are offering on June 6th covers:

  • An overview of what the general public believes about older people and about aging in America
  • Effective frames and messaging that have been proven to shift public opinion in a positive direction
  • Words, phrases and messaging that are not productive because they reinforce ageist attitudes and negative stereotypes
  • Ideas for moving from concept to action

The presenter is Janine Vandenburg who describes herself in as a social entrepreneur, community activist, facilitator, designer, boomer leading change, encore career champion, feminist, social change idea generator, and Mom!
